Para isso foram escolhidos dois tratamentos: a) estabelecimento de uma metodologia padrão, verificando a úmida de obtida e estudando os efeitos do aquecimento na matéria orgânica dos solos, alem de uma determinação do tempo de secamento para uma dada umidade; b) testar a aplicabilidade, determinando a umidade por microondas durante um tempo pré-estabelecido, e comparando os resultados com os obtidos na estufa convencional e radiações infravermelhas. Os testes foram desenvolvidos no Laboratório de Água e Solos do Departamento Nacional de Obras Contra as Secas (DNOCS) e no Laboratório de Química da Indústria Wallig Nordeste. Os resultados mostraram que as umidades obtidas da secagem por microondas não foram muito diferentes daqueles obtidos através do método gravimétrico. 0 tempo para secar amostras de solos secos ao ar f o i de 20 - 4 5 minutos, dependendo da umidade e peso. 0 efeito do aquecimento por microondas sobre a matéria orgânica do solo tem sido tanto quanto o da estufa convencional a 105 C, durante 24 horas.
