Morphology and yield of fava under different conditions of cultural management.

Das espécies Phaseolus, é a mais tolerante à seca, adaptando-se bem ao sistema de agricultura familiar. Apesar da sua importância, a fava tem sido pouco estudada, necessitando de mais atenção dos pesquisadores. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido na Estação Experimental do Abacaxi, da EMEPA, no município de Sapé-PB, constando de três experimentos, com o objetivo de se obter informações sobre crescimento, desenvolvimento e produção da fava (Phaseolus lunatus L.), em função de manejos diferentes da cultura. No primeiro experimento, desenvolvido entre abril e agosto de 2003, foram estudadas treze variedades exploradas no Estado da Paraíba, como o objetivo de se definir as diversas características morfológicas e fisiológicas, bem com, o crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas em condições de irrigação e de sequeiro. As sementes das variedades estudadas foram cedidas pela Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária da Paraíba-EMEPA. Foi constatada grande variabilidade das características morfológicas dos genótipos estudados, bem como, dos índices de crescimento e de produção. O segundo experimento foi desenvolvido no período de outubro de 2003 a março de 2004 e teve como objetivo estudar o crescimento e o desenvolvimento de sete variedades de fava, selecionadas do experimento anterior, irrigadas com quatro lâminas diárias. Dentre as variedades estudadas, quatro não floresceram, ermanecendo durante todo o período do experimento, aproximadamente 150 dias, em estado vegetativo. Chuvas acima das médias históricas para a região podem ter influenciado o crescimento e o desenvolvimento das plantas. O terceiro experimento foi desenvolvido entre os meses de setembro de 2004 a fevereiro de 2005, e teve como objetivo estudar o desenvolvimento da fava cultivada com quatro lâminas de irrigação e duas densidades de plantio; esse experimento foi desenvolvido com a variedade Boca-de-moça, a de melhor desempenho, dentre todas as variedades, nos ensaios anteriores. Em cada capítulo deste trabalho constam informações e dados obtidos nos vários experimentos.The cultivation of lima bean ponders, mainly, in the Northeast of Brazil, beingan important source of proteins for population. Is the most tolerant to drought of Phaseolus species, adapting well to the family agriculture system. In spite of its importance, the lima bean has been studied little, needing more attention of the researchers. This work was carried in the Experimental Station of the Pineapple, of EMEPA, situated at Sapé/PB, consisting of three experiments, with the objective of obtaining information about growth, development and production of lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.), in handlings different from the culture. In the first experiment, developed during April to August of 2003, thirteen cultivars cultivated in the Paraiba State were studied, with the objective of defining several morphologic and physiologic characteristics, as well as the growth and development of plants with and without irrigation conditions. The seeds were provided by the Company of Agricultural Research of Paraíba-EMEPA. High variability of the morphologic characteristics in studied genotypes was verified, well as in growth and production indexes. The second experiment was developed during October/2003 to March/2004 with the objective to study the growth and the development of seven cultivars of lima bean, selected of the previous experiment, irrigated with four irrigation depths. Four cultivars did not bloom, staying during the whole period of experiment, approximately 150 days, in vegetative state. Rains above the historical averages might have influenced the growth and development of the plants. The third experiment was conducted during September/2004 to February/2005, with the objective to study the development of the lima bean cultivated with four irrigation depths and two plantation densities.
