Congregações católicas e educação: o caso da Sagrada Família de Bordeaux

This article proposes a discussion about the arrival in Brazil of a great amount of feminine religious congregations whose mission was linked to education. It shows particularly the case of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Bordeaux. Trying to understand their itinerary from the beginning (their arrival in 1908) until the foundation of a school (1953) and comparing it with other cases already studied in the bibliography, it analyzes both the circumstances of the sisters’ on set in Brazil and their accomplishments in the country. The sources that I present here permit the reader to observe the choices and the strategies employed by the sisters in the development of their activities in this country.A fim de discutir a chegada ao Brasil de muitas congregações religiosas femininas que afirmavam ter como finalidade o trabalho na educação, apresento aqui o caso da congregação das irmãs da Sagrada Família de Bordeaux. Este artigo analisa as circunstâncias da vinda das irmãs para o Brasil e as formas de ação estabelecidas por elas no país a fim de compreender seu percurso desde sua chegada (1908) até a fundação de um colégio (1953), confrontando-o com outros casos já estudados pela bibliografia. As fontes aqui apresentadas oferecem a possibilidade de observar as escolhas e as táticas utilizadas pelas irmãs para se estabelecerem no Brasil e desenvolverem suas atividades.
