Genetic parameters and trends for biometrics and morphofunctional traits for criola horse breed animals participants of freio de ouro

Originating from the Andalusian breed is considered an extremely docile and multifunctional animal, used in activities with livestock and in sport activities like polo, races and other activities. However, little is known about breeding programs in this breed. The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic trend and the heritability coefficients for the biometric and morphofunctional characteristics, height of the withers (AC), thoracic perimeter (PT), circumference of cannon bone (CC), morphology (MOR), gait proof (AND), figure proof (FIG), turns on legs and to sliding stop proof (VSPESB), separate cattle proof (MAN) and field proof (CAM), as well as the genetic correlation between them, for a population of Crioula horse breed. Informations from 350 animals (170 males and 180 females), born between the years 1989 and 2011, participants of the Freio de Ouro (golden brake) competition in the years 1998-2015 were used. To estimate the components of (co)variance an animal model and the methodology of Bayesian Inference using the Gibbs sampler method were used. The heritability coefficients for AC, PT, CC, MOR, AND, FIG, VSPESB, MAN and CAM were 0.42, 0.39, 0.55, 0.40, 0.37, 0.25, 0, 33, 0.38, and 0.17, respectively and suggest that is possible to obtain genetic gains through phenotypic selection for the following traits: AC, PT, CC, MOR, AND, VSPESB and MAN. The genetic correlation coefficients estimated ranged from -0.76 (MOR and MAN) to 0.91 (AC and CC). The negative correlation between morphology and high hose suggest that special attention must be pay at the selection process because to improve of one can promote deterioration of the other. The estimated genetic trends practically null for the biometric and morphofunctional traits studied, suggest that the genetic gain was irrelevant over the years.O cavalo Crioulo considerado como símbolo do Rio Grande do Sul, tem considerável importância econômica para o estado. Originário da raça Andaluza é respeitado como um animal extremamente dócil e multifuncional, utilizado para montaria em cavalgadas, serviço com pecuária, Polo, Hipismo entre outras atividades. Entretanto, pouco se conhece sobre programas de melhoramento genético que venham sendo implementados nesta raça. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a tendência genética e os coeficientes de herdabilidade para as características biométricas e morfofuncionais, altura da cernelha (AC), perímetro torácico (PT), circunferência de canela (CC), morfologia (MOR), andadura (AND), figura (FIG), voltas sobre patas e esbarradas (VSPESB), mangueira (MAN) e campo (CAM), bem como a correlação genética entre elas, para uma população de equinos da raça Crioula. Foram utilizadas informações de 350 animais (170 machos e 180 fêmeas), participantes das competições do Freio de Ouro nos anos de 1998 a 2015, nascidos entre os anos de 1989 e 2011 com idades entre três e doze anos. Para estimar os componentes de (co)variâncias utilizou-se a metodologia da Inferência Bayesiana através do método de amostradores de Gibbs. Os coeficientes de herdabiladade para AC, PT, CC, MOR, AND, FIG, VSPESB, MAN e CAM foram,0,42, 0,39, 0,55, 0,40, 0,37, 0,25, 0,33, 0,38 e 0,17, respectivamente. As estimativas de correlações genéticas estimadas variaram entre, -0,76 (MOR e MAN) e 0,91 (AC e CC). As estimativas de herdabilidade mostram que é possível obter ganhos genéticos futuros, através da seleção fenotípica das características de AC, PT, CC, MOR, AND, VSPESB e MAN. A correlação negativa e alta entre morfologia e mangueira mostra que se deve ter atenção ao selecionar uma das características, pois, ao melhorá-la estará logo piorando a outra. A análise da estimativa de tendências genéticas apresentou-se praticamente nula para as características biométricas e morfofuncionais estudadas, indicando que o ganho genético foi praticamente irrelevante ao longo dos anos
