THE TEXTUAL GENRES OF PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE TEXTBOOKS: SEEKING THE SECRET OF THE SPHINX

The corpus of this research are three textbooks of the 6º year from Basic School that are being used by the public schools in Santa Maria. Through this investigation, it was sought to find out: how the genre concept is approached on the teacher s guide in Portuguese language textbooks; how this concept is presented to the teacher, also, which theoretical framework supports reading and textual production. Furthermore, it was sought to analyze if there is coherence between the content of the guide and the proposals of the book. The contribution of this study consisted on offering tools for the teachers to use this concept, to locate themselves in the content presented by textbooks, to dialogue between them, plus, to have the means to choose, conduct and elaborate their own methodologies. Therefore, this work is divided in three chapters. Chapter 1 deals with genre in the teaching context, reconstructing some historical data about Portuguese language teaching, through the 20th century, and how textbooks follow this path. Also presents the notion of genres according to Bakhtin (1992), then, it approaches the notion of genres on official documents, as well as explores the recurrent concepts of genre on current textbooks. Chapter 2 presents the research and its methodological aspects, while chapter 3 closes with the discussion and the contribution of this analysis.Este trabalho apresenta a análise do conceito de gêneros em livros didáticos de língua portuguesa. O corpus desta pesquisa são três Livros Didáticos do 6º ano do Ensino Fundamental que estão sendo utilizados na rede pública de Santa Maria. Por meio dessa investigação, buscou-se apurar: como o conceito de gênero é abordado no manual do professor dos livros didáticos de língua portuguesa; como esse conceito é apresentado ao professor, ainda, que embasamento teórico fundamenta as propostas de leitura e de produção textual. Além disso, buscou-se analisar se há coerência entre o conteúdo do manual e as propostas do livro. A contribuição deste estudo consistiu em oferecer aos professores meios de apropriar-se desse conceito, de situar-se no conteúdo apresentado pelos materiais didáticos, dialogar com eles e ter subsídios para escolher, orientar e elaborar as suas próprias metodologias. Por isso, o trabalho está dividido em três capítulos. O capítulo 1 trata dos gêneros no contexto de ensino, reconstituindo alguns dados da história do ensino de língua portuguesa, ao longo do século XX, e como o Livro didático acompanha essa trajetória. Também apresenta a noção de gêneros segundo Bakhtin (1992), em seguida, aborda a noção de gêneros nos documentos oficiais, assim como explora os conceitos de gêneros recorrentes nos livros didáticos atuais. O capítulo 2 apresenta a pesquisa e os aspectos metodológicos, enquanto o capítulo 3 encerra com a discussão e a contribuição desta análise
