Sward structure and morphogenesis of italian ryegrass intercropped with red clover under cutting intervals determined by thermal sum

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESThe sward structure and the morphogenesis of Italian ryegrass were studied in a mixture constituted by Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) oversown with Italian Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and Red Clover (Trifolium pratense L.). The treatments were constituted by cutting intervals determined by different thermal sums (125, 250, 375 e 500 degrees-day (GD). The cuts were performed at the intensity of 50% of the canopy height. The evaluation of morphogenic and structural variables occurred from July to October in the years 2016/17, with experimental design of complete randomized blocks. The variables sward height, extended tiller, pseudostem and forage mass fitted to linear equations, increasing as a function of the thermal sum. The leaf: stem ratio of ryegrass was higher (2.6) in the cutting interval of 125 GD and lower (0.73) in the 500 GD interval. Tifton 85 had a higher participation (13.54%) in the lowest interval while the participation of red clover was higher (12.09%) in the larger intervals (375 e 500 GD). The leaf appearance rate (0.0080 leaf/GD), phyllochron (128.8 GD) and senescence rate (0.10 cm/GD) of ryegrass were similar at different intervals. In the cutting interval of 125 GD, the lowest elongation rate (0.06 cm/GD) and the longer elongation duration (171.6 GD) were observed. Different cutting intervals determined different leaf lifespam. Under rotational stocking method, it is recommended the use of a cutting interval of 250 degrees-day considering the efficiency of the use of the forage, leaf:stem ratio of ryegrass and participation of red clover in the canopy.Na consorciação constituída por Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) sobressemeada com azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) e trevo vermelho (Trifolium pratense L.) foi estudada a estrutura do dossel e a morfogênese do azevém. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por intervalos entre cortes determinado por diferentes somas térmicas (125, 250, 375 e 500 graus-dia, GD). Os cortes foram realizados na intensidade de 50% da altura do dossel. A coleta das variáveis morfogênicas e estruturais ocorreu de julho a outubro nos anos de 2016/17, com delineamento experimental de blocos completos ao acaso. A altura do dossel, perfilho estendido, pseudocolmo e a massa de forragem ajustaram-se a equações lineares crescentes em função da soma térmica. A relação folha:colmo de azevém foi maior (2,6) no intervalo entre cortes de 125 GD e menor (0,73) no intervalo de 500 GD. O Tifton 85 teve maior participação percentual (13,54%) no menor intervalo enquanto a participação do trevo vermelho foi maior (12,09%) nos maiores intervalos (375 e 500 GD). A taxa de aparecimento foliar (0,0080 folha/GD), o filocrono (128,8 GD) e a taxa de senescência (0,10 cm/GD) do azevém foram similares nos diferentes intervalos. No intervalo entre cortes de 125 GD foram observadas a menor taxa de elongação (0,06 cm/GD) e a maior duração de elongação (171,6 GD). Diferentes intervalos entre cortes determinaram diferentes duração de vida da folha. Sob método de lotação rotativa é recomendado o uso de um intervalo entre pastejos de 250 GD considerando a eficiência do uso da forragem, relação folha:colmo do azevém e participação de trevo vermelho no dossel
