VEILED FEMININE: THE RECEPTION OF TELENOVELA BY MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS OF WORKING CLASSES

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorThis is a study of telenovela reception Passione conducted with mothers and daughters of working classes empirically that articulates the categories of gender, social class and generation. The goal is to understand how the receptors work out his notion of the feminine from the telenovela Passione. For this, the research is based on Latin American cultural studies, mainly on the Theory of Mediations, of Jesús Martín-Barbero. The methodology combines a rereading of the model encoding/decoding of Stuart Hall, made by Ronsini et al (2009), and critical ethnography of the reception (RONSINI, 2010). The results show that despite the telenovelas present several possibilities for feminine, domestic space is still portrayed as essentially linked to women. This discourse is fully assimilated by those mothers and partly by their daughters who not so easily accept the separation between the public sphere for men and women to the private sphere. These findings probably are due to their higher level of education when compared with educational level of the mothers. Motherhood, however, remains a priority for most respondents.Este trabalho é um estudo de recepção da telenovela Passione realizado com mães e filhas das classes populares que articula empiricamente as categorias de gênero, classe social e geração. O objetivo é perceber de que forma as receptoras elaboram a sua noção do feminino a partir da telenovela Passione. Para isso, a pesquisa se fundamenta nos estudos culturais latino-americanos, principalmente na Teoria das Mediações, de Jesús Martín-Barbero. A metodologia utilizada combina a releitura do modelo encoding/decoding de Stuart Hall, feita por Ronsini et al (2009), e a etnografia crítica da recepção (RONSINI, 2010). Os resultados demonstram que apesar das telenovelas apresentarem diversas possibilidades para o feminino, o espaço doméstico ainda é retratado como essencialmente ligado às mulheres. Esse discurso é assimilado totalmente pelas mães entrevistadas e parcialmente pelas filhas. Estas, talvez pelo maior nível de escolaridade em relação às mães, não aceitam tão facilmente a separação entre esfera pública para os homens e esfera privada para as mulheres. A maternidade, no entanto, continua sendo uma prioridade para a maioria das entrevistadas
