This study examines two methods of instruction: 1) a traditional method using flashcard drills, worksheets, and movement (zoo-phonics), and 2) a method that incorporates the use of memory enhancement strategies. The study examines these two methods in order to answer the question: How do memory enhancement strategies impact the students' learning of high-frequency words? At the onset of this study it was believed that memory enhancement strategies were one way to make learning easier and more enjoyable for students. After conducting this study it became evident that students could successfully learn to read and spell the words through both methods of instruction.
