Uncommon anatomical sites and non-traditional anatomopathological presentations of lymphoma in dogs

Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPqThis dissertation involved the retrospective study of different anatomopathological types of lymphoma that were diagnosed in the Laboratório de Patologia Veterinária of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria between 1965 and 2017. Of a total of 100 dogs with lymphoma, 16 (16% of cases), the macroscopic and/or histopathological findings allowed us to admit, from the international literature, that they were cases not traditionally described: follicular lymphoma, (5/100 [5%]), peripheral T-cell lymphoma, nonspecific (2/100 [2%]), angiocentric lymphoma (2/100 [2%]), intravascular large T-cell lymphoma (2/100 [2%]), lymphomatoid granulomatosis (1/100 [1%]), anaplastic large cell lymphoma (1/100 [1%]), hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (1/100 [1%]) and small lymphocytic lymphoma – intermediate type (1/100 [1%]).Further study of these cases was the objective of this dissertation, so that with the results expressed herein, veterinary pathologists will recognize such “atypical lymphomas". This study resulted in four scientific papers (two articles and two case reports) that are part of this dissertation: 1) Uncommon anatomical sites and non-traditional anatomopathological presentations of lymphoma in dogs, 2) Epidemiological, clinical and pathological aspects of follicular lymphoma in dogs, 3) Intravascular large T-cell lymphoma in two dogs, and 4) Pagetoid reticulosis in a dog.Esta dissertação envolveu o estudo retrospectivo de diferentes tipos anatomopatológicos de linfoma que foram diagnosticados no Laboratório de Patologia Veterinária da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria entre os anos de 1965 e 2017. De um total de 100 cães com linfoma, em 16 (16% dos casos) os achados macroscópicos e/ou histopatológicos permitiram admitir, a partir da literatura internacional, que se tratavam de casos não tradicionalmente descritos, incluindo: linfoma folicular (5/100 [5%]), linfoma de células T periférico inespecífico (2/100 [2%]), linfoma angiocêntrico (2/100 [2%]), linfoma intravascular de grandes células T (2/100 [2%]), granulomatose linfomatoide (2/100 [2%]), linfoma de grandes células anaplásicas (1/100 [1%]), linfoma hepatoesplênico de células T (1/100 [1%]) e linfoma linfocítico crônico de pequenas células B – tipo intermediário (1/100 [1%]). O objetivo desta dissertação foi estudar mais detalhadamente esses casos, para que com os resultados aqui expressos, patologistas veterinários venham a reconhecer tais formas atípicas de linfoma. Este estudo resultou em quatro trabalhos científicos (dois artigos e dois relatos de caso) intitulados: 1) Sítios anatômicos incomuns e apresentações anatomopatológicas pouco frequentes do linfoma em cães, 2) Aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e anatomopatológicos do linfoma folicular em cães, 3) Linfoma intravascular de grandes células T em dois cães, e 4) Reticulose pagetoide em um cão
