THE ARCHAEOLOGY RESEARCH ON QUARAÍ: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF LOCAL HERITAGE

This dissertation presents a review of archaeological research conducted in the municipality of Quaraí/RS, inserted in the Salamanca Project, developed at the Laboratory of Archaeological Studies and Research, Federal University of Santa Maria (LEPA-UFSM). The research reviewed are presented in the form of dissertations, monographs and some papers, ie research are already developed that rely on important results for the systematization of information about archeology at the southern border of Rio Grande do Sul. This review aims to characterize Quaraí, located in the border region of the state, as a heritage area, in other words, through material culture, analyzed by an archaeological, it is perceived as the region has many heritage that are related spatially and should be disclosed more systematically to the scientific community and regional levels. Concepts, definitions and problems concerning the concepts of cultural heritage are developed contextualizing the discussion of the archaeological heritage of the border west of Rio Grande do Sul. This discussion led to a compilation of the results obtained in the study of archaeological Quaraí, demonstrating how the town can be characterized as a patrimonial territory, since it sought to identify the local heritage through the territorial notion of historical continuity. Thus, it was concluded that the city of Quaraí has great potential archaeological and historical it should be widely disseminated to the local community through the precepts of Public Archeology.A presente dissertação apresenta uma revisão das pesquisas arqueológicas realizadas no município de Quaraí/RS, inseridas no Projeto Salamanca, desenvolvido no Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas Arqueológicas da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (LEPA-UFSM). Os trabalhos pesquisados apresentam-se sob forma de teses, dissertações, monografias e alguns artigos, ou seja, são pesquisas já desenvolvidas que contam com resultados importantes para a sistematização das informações a respeito da arqueologia na fronteira sulrio- grandense. Essa revisão objetiva caracterizar Quaraí, localizada na região fronteiriça do estado como um território patrimonial, ou seja, através da cultura material, analisada pelo viés arqueológico, percebe-se como a região possui diversos patrimônios que se relacionam espacialmente e que devem ser divulgados de forma mais sistemática para a comunidade científica e regional. Conceituações, definições e problemáticas a respeito das noções de patrimônio cultural são desenvolvidas contextualizando a discussão sobre o patrimônio arqueológico da Fronteira Oeste do Rio Grande do Sul. Essa discussão gerou uma compilação dos resultados obtidos com as pesquisas arqueológicas de Quaraí, demonstrando como o município pode ser caracterizando como um território patrimonial, uma vez que se buscou a identificação do patrimônio local através da noção territorial de continuidade histórica. Assim, concluiu-se que o município de Quaraí tem um grande potencial arqueológico e histórico que deve ser amplamente divulgado para a comunidade local através dos preceitos da Arqueologia Pública
