Application of multispectral sensor on board of the uav in determination of severity degrees of Erwinia psidii in Eucalyptus urograndis

Erwinia psidii die-back has been reported as one of the major diseases in commercial eucalyptus plantations. The objective of this work was to develop a methodology for the processing and analysis of images obtained by the multispectral sensor in the UAV, so to assist in the characterization of the spectral response of Eucalyptus urugrandis with incidence of the bacterium Erwinia psidii, aiming at discrimination and recognition of levels of disease severity in forest plantations. The assessed settlement is located in the municipality of Minas do Leão - RS, where the flight was carried out with a UAV equipped with a multispectral camera. In the field, the assessment of a portion of disease monitoring was carried out, in which level 1) without occurrence of the disease; 2) small occurrence of the disease: less than 30% of the tree; 3) average occurrence of the disease: up to 50% of the tree; 4) high occurrence of the disease: over 50% of the tree. The flight resulted in two images, one RGB and one multispectral, from which the simulated spectral behavior in the different sensor bands was extracted. The treetops of the monitored portion were manually vectored and classified according to the field survey. Eleven vegetation rates were calculated for the treetops, compared at different levels of severity, and evaluated using parametric and non-parametric statistical tests. These indicated that the Plant Senescence Reflectance Index (PSRI) is the most adequate to differentiate the severity levels of the disease caused by Erwinia psidii in plantations of Eucalyptus urugrandis. As the severity increases, the PSRI increases in the different bands, except in the IVP band. The simulated spectral behavior showed that the severity level 4 trees have higher reflectance than the other levels in the green, red and RedEge bands of the image Multispectral. The absolutely healthy area of the field represented only 30.38% of its total area, while the area with some degree of disease severity corresponded to 52.14%. The remaining area corresponded to regions with low leaf cover, early transition to exposed soil, exposed soil areas, between lines and planting failures. This work characterizes an innovation in the conventional way of quantifying and detecting the presence of pathogen signals in the forest area. The result found in this work indicates that the great advantage of the use of UAVs in forestry is the increase of the spatial and temporal resolution, allowing the analysis of the individualized treetops, besides its ease of handling and speed in the acquisition of data.O conhecimento das perdas causadas por doenças no campo é considerado um dos mais importantes fatores no manejo integrado de doenças em Eucalyptus. A seca de ponteiros causada por Erwinia psidii tem despontando como uma das principais doenças em plantios comerciais de eucalipto. O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver uma metodologia de processamento e análise de imagens obtidas por sensor multiespectral embarco em VANT, para auxiliar na caracterização da resposta espectral de Eucalyptus urograndis com incidência da bactéria Erwinia psidii, visando a discriminação e reconhecimento dos níveis de severidades da doença em plantios florestais. O povoamento avaliado localiza-se no município de Minas do Leão – RS, onde foi realizado o voo com VANT equipado com câmera multiespectral. Na etapa de campo realizou-se a avaliação de uma parcela de monitoramento da doença, onde o nível 1) sem ocorrência da doença; 2) pequena ocorrência da doença: menos de 30% da árvore; 3) média ocorrência da doença: até 50% da árvore; 4) alta ocorrência da doença: acima de 50% da árvore. O voo resultou em duas imagens, uma RGB e uma multiespectral. As copas das árvores da parcela de monitoramento foram vetorizadas manualmente e classificadas conformo o levantamento de campo. Foram calculados onze índices de vegetação para as copas, comparados nos diferentes níveis de severidade e avaliados a partir de testes estatísticos paramétricos e não paramétricos. Os testes indicaram que o Índice de Reflectância de Senescência das Plantas (PSRI) é o mais adequado para diferenciar os níveis de severidade da doença causada pela Erwinia psidii em plantios de Eucalyptus urograndis. A medida que a severidade aumenta, ocorre o aumento do PSRI nas diferentes bandas, exceto na banda do IVP.O comportamento espectral simulado mostrou que as árvores de nível 4 de severidade possuem reflectância superior aos outros níveis nas bandas verde, vermelha e RedEge da imagem multiespectral. A área absolutamente saudável do talhão representou a 30,38% de sua área total, enquanto a área com algum nível de severidade da doença correspondeu a 52,14%. A área restante correspondeu a regiões com baixa cobertura de folhas, início de transição para solo exposto, áreas de solo exposto, entrelinhas e falhas de plantio. Esse trabalho caracteriza uma inovação na forma convencional de quantificar e detectar a presença dos sinais de patógenos em área florestal. O resultado encontrado neste trabalho indica que a grande vantagem o uso de VANTs na silvicultura é o aumento da resolução espacial e temporal, permitindo a análise das copas indivudializadas, além de sua facilidade de manuseio e rapidez na aquisição de dados
