Typically high fluence-rate (HF) ultraviolet light B (UV-B) (> 1.0 mole m'2 s???1) causes\ud cellular damage in plants, whereas low fluence-rate (LF) UV-B (<1.0 mole m'2 s'1) may\ud provide important environmental cues for plant development. An Arabidopsis root UV-B\ud sensitive (rusl) mutant that is hypersensitive to very low fluence-rate (VLF) UV-B has\ud been identified.
