As imperfeições geométricas que surgem no processo de fabricação das placas são modeladas através de um campo estocástico gaussiano usando o Método da Representação Espectral. A carga crítica de flambagem e a carga de ruptura de cada placa foram determinadas através do programa de elementos finitos ANSYS. Aplicando o Método de Monte Carlo analisou-se o efeito que variabilidade do campo estocástico das imperfeições geométricas e das variáveis aleatórias (módulo de elasticidade, tensão de escoamento e espessura) provocam na variação da carga de ruptura. Empregando-se o Método de Monte Carlo também foi realizado um estudo de Confiabilidade de placas finas sob flambagem. Primeiro o modelo de elementos finitos foi validado através da solução analítica de Paik et al. (2001), para o comportamento pós-flambagem de uma placa e da solução numérica de Kumar et al. (2007), para uma placa com um furo retangular. Em seguida, o efeito da variabilidade foi estudado para a situação em que o campo estocástico das imperfeições e as variáveis aleatórias atuam juntos. A análise da Confiabilidade baseou-se na relação entre a carga de ruptura e a carga crítica de flambagem da placa Buckling Strength Ratio (BSR). As principais conclusões obtidas são: que o efeito da variabilidade conjunta é significativo, quando o campo estocástico é considerado; que para a placa estudada se BSR é até 2,2 vezes a carga crítica, a confiabilidade é praticamente de 100%, e que quando a carga aplicada é superior a 3,8 vezes a carga crítica da placa, a confiabilidade é zero.In this paper, the nonlinear buckling analysis of thin steel plates using the finite element method was performed. The Method of Spectral Representation of the Stochastic Field was used to generate the geometric imperfections of the plate. The ANSYS finite element program was used to calculate the buckling critical load and the rupture load of the plate. The Monte Carlo method was applied to analyze the effect that the variability of the imperfections stochastic field and the random variables (modulus of elasticity, yield stress and thickness) have on the variation of the plate’s rupture load. A reliability analysis of the plate was also carried out. First the finite element model was validated through the analytical solution of Paik et al. (2001), for the post-buckling behavior of a plate; and the numerical solution of Kumar et al. (2007), for a plate with a rectangular hole. After, the effect of variability was studied for the situation in which the imperfections stochastic field and the random variables are considered as varying together. The analysis of reliability was based on the relation Buckling Strength Ratio (BSR), between the plate’s rupture load and its elastic buckling critical load. The main findings are: that the effect of the joint variability is significant and that for the plate analyzed here, when the value of BSR is equal to 2.2, the reliability is practically 100%, but when the value of BSR is higher than 3.8, the reliability vanishes
