O EFEITO DA SEPARAÇÃO PRECOCE PÓS-NATAL NA EFICIÊNCIA DA TROCA DE SINAIS ENTRE A MÃE E O BEBÊ DURANTE A PRIMEIRA MAMADA

The naturalistic observation method was used, and 20 mother-infant pairs were studied. The mothers were primiparas, having carried out uneventful gestations, according to medical criteria, and presenting vaginal deliveries. The babies were born at due date, within the 38th and the 40th weeks of gestation, and were observed during their first hours of life according to the Apgar criterion, being considered healthy. The control group was formed by 10 pairs not exposed to a forced postnatal separation and the experimental group, by 10 pairs exposed to a forced postnatal separation, which are the procedures adopted by the maternities where these data were collected. The behaviors of mothers and babies of both groups were observed using behavioral categories previously defined, which were analyzed through the use of the accumulated frequency of 1,200 registers obtained from both groups and submitted to the analysis of the correlation coefficient of Pearson. The results indicated significant differences between the two groups in the main categories of interactions of the present research: for the mothers – breastfeed, look at the baby, and other behaviors of mother interaction; for the babies – suckle, move and keep the eyes open. The data showed that the babies from the control group were visibly more responsive to the signs emitted by the mother than the babies of the experimental group. The mother and baby behavioral variables correlated in the control group indicated adequate and consistent interrelational dynamics. Yet the dynamics of the mother and baby experimental group was sparse, because they were not able to maintain and prolong their own alert state until the end of the interaction. These results support the initial expectations of the study, and permit to conclude that there are differences in the performance of the control group when compared to the experimental group regarding the precocious communication established during the first feeding. The differences were determined by the behavioral performance of the babies from the control group and evidenced by a more efficient sign exchange. The procedure of precociously separating the babies from their mothers affected, in this research, the efficiency of sign exchange at the first feeding, interfering in the behavior of both parts of the pair.Neste estudo foi investigada a comunicação humana em sua fase mais precoce, ou seja, durante a primeira mamada. Foi usado o método de observação naturalística, estudando 20 díades mãe-bebê. As mães eram primíparas, de gestação sem intercorrências, segundo critérios médicos, e de parto vaginal. Os bebês nasceram a termo e foram observados nas primeiras horas de vida, sendo saudáveis segundo o critério de Apgar. O grupo controle foi formado por 10 díades não expostas à separação forçada pós-natal e o grupo experimental, por 10 díades expostas à separação forçada pós-natal, procedimentos adotados pelas maternidades onde os dados foram coletados. Os comportamentos das mães e dos bebês dos dois grupos foram observados utilizando-se categorias comportamentais, previamente definidas, que foram analisadas através da freqüência cumulativa dos 1.200 registros obtidos nos dois grupos e submetidos à análise do coeficiente de correlação de Pearson. Os resultados indicaram diferenças significativas entre os dois grupos de díades nas principais categorias de interações deste estudo: para as mães – amamentar, olhar o bebê e outros comportamentos de interação das mães; para os bebês – mamar, mexer e ficar de olhos abertos. Os dados revelaram que os bebês do grupo controle foram visivelmente mais responsivos aos sinais emitidos pelas mães do que os bebês do grupo experimental. As variáveis comportamentais das mães e dos bebês correlacionadas no grupo controle indicaram uma dinâmica interrelacional adequada e consistente. Já as das mães e dos bebês do grupo experimental indicaram uma dinâmica dispersa, pois não conseguiram manter e prolongar seus próprios estados de atenção até o final da interação. Estes resultados apóiam a expectativa inicial do estudo, concluindo-se que existem diferenças no desempenho do grupo controle em relação ao grupo experimental no que diz respeito à comunicação precoce estabelecida durante a primeira mamada. As diferenças foram determinadas pelo desempenho comportamental dos bebês do grupo controle e evidenciadas por uma troca mais eficiente de sinais. O procedimento de separar precocemente os bebês de suas mães afetou, nesta pesquisa, a eficiência da troca de sinais logo na primeira mamada, interferindo no comportamento das duas partes da díade
