Oral health and quality of life of community-dwelling elderly.

The first article will be submitted to the Brazilian Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology titled "Oral health and quality of life of community-dwelling elderly: an integrative review". Objectives: select and analyze studies that assess the impact of oral health on quality of life of elderly community through questionnaire Oral Health Impact Profile - short form (OHIP-14). The methodology was the integrative literature review, and analyzed articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish, published on the websites of journals: United States National Library of Medicine and Virtual Health Library The search was conducted in the period August-November 2015 the sample consisted of 10 articles. The review revealed that the quality of life related to oral health of the elderly suffer high frequency of impact, these impacts are mainly perceived in the fields of OHIP-14: Pain Physical and Psychological discomfort. The greatest frequency impact and poorer quality of life related to oral health were associated with: low income, low education level, type of housing, more missing teeth, use or need for dental prostheses, type of dental service (emergency) and more general health problems. It was concluded that the use of instrument capable of measuring the perception of the impact of oral conditions on quality of life of the elderly is an important aid and supplement the clinical examination, for planning of dental services. The second article will be submitted to the Public Health Notebooks magazine with the title "Quality of life related to oral health in communitydwelling elderly." Objectives: To evaluate the quality of life related to oral health, the correlation with the overall health and the influence of sociodemographic and economic factors in community-dwelling elderly. The design was the analytical and cross-sample of 224 elderly. The data collection instruments were: Oral Health Impact Profile-14 to assess the quality of life related to oral health; Short-Form Health Survey-36 to assess the quality of life related to general health; sociodemographic questionnaire and the questionnaire and criterion of economic classification of the Brazilian Research Companies Association. The prevalence of impact of oral health on the quality of life of older people was 83.9%, mainly perceived in the areas: physical pain and psychological discomfort. Quality of life as measured by SF-36 showed the best results in the dimensions: Vitality, Mental Health and Social Aspects; and the worst result in the Physical Aspects. Being female, having four to six children, do not have own transport and belonging economic classes with low purchasing power have repercussions in poorer quality of life related to oral health. The quality of life related to general health proved to be worse in older people without health insurance, illiterate, with more than seven children and with income less than or equal to the minimum wage. The quality of life related to oral health was weak and inverse correlation with quality of life related to general health, suggesting that the impact of oral conditions are poorly perceived within the socioeconomic context lived by the elderly.The results reveal the need for planning and coordination of oral health services, with the implementation of effective interventions, preventive, curative and rehabilitative; acting mainly on aspects of the pain and disability caused by oral conditions, aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly.Dissertação construída na modalidade artigo científico. Objetivos: selecionar e analisar pesquisas que avaliaram o impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida de idosos comunitários por meio do questionário Oral Health Impact Profile short form (OHIP-14). A metodologia foi a revisão integrativa da literatura, e foram analisados artigos em inglês, português e espanhol, publicados nos portais de periódicos: United States National Library of Medicine e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. A busca foi realizada no período de agosto a novembro de 2015, a amostra foi constituída por 10 artigos. A revisão revelou que a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal dos idosos sofre alta frequência de impacto, tais impactos são percebidos principalmente nos domínios do OHIP-14: Dor Física e Desconforto Psicológico. As maiores frequências de impacto e pior qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal estiveram associadas com: baixa renda, baixo grau de escolaridade, tipo de moradia, maior número de dentes perdidos, uso ou necessidade de próteses dentárias, tipo de serviço odontológico utilizado (urgência) e ao maior número de problemas de saúde geral. Concluiu-se que a utilização de instrumento capaz de mensurar a percepção de impacto das condições bucais sobre a qualidade de vida de idosos é um importante auxiliar e complementar do exame clínico, para o planejamento dos serviços odontológicos. O segundo artigo será submetido à revista Cadernos de Saúde Pública com o título Qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal em idosos comunitários . Objetivos: avaliar a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal, a correlação com a saúde geral e a influência dos fatores sociodemográficos e econômicos em idosos comunitários. O desenho foi o transversal analítico e a amostra composta por 224 idosos. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram: Oral Health Impact Profile-14 para avaliar a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal; Short-Form Health Survey-36 para avaliar a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde geral; questionário de avaliação sociodemográfica e o questionário e critério de classificação econômica da Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Pesquisa. A prevalência de impacto da saúde bucal sobre a qualidade de vida dos idosos foi de 83,9%, percebidos principalmente nos domínios: Dor física e Desconforto psicológico. A qualidade de vida medida pelo SF-36, mostrou os melhores resultados nas dimensões: Vitalidade, Saúde Mental e Aspectos Sociais; e o pior resultado, nos Aspectos Físicos. Ser do sexo feminino, ter de quatro a seis filhos, não ter transporte próprio e pertencer as classes econômicas com baixo poder de compra repercutem em pior qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal. A qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde geral mostrou ser pior nos idosos sem plano de saúde, analfabetos, com mais de sete filhos e com renda menor ou igual a um salário mínimo. A qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal teve fraca e inversa correlação com qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde geral, sugerindo que os impactos das condições bucais são pouco percebidos dentro do contexto socioeconômico vivido pelos idosos. Os resultados revelam a necessidade de planejamento e articulação dos serviços de saúde bucal, com a implementação de intervenções efetivas, preventivas, curativas e reabilitadoras; atuando, principalmente nos aspectos da dor e da invalidez causadas pelas condições bucais, visando a melhoria da qualidade de vida do idoso
