AVALIAÇÃO PRELIMINAR DO GERENCIAMENTO DOS RESÍDUOS DOS SERVIÇOS DE SAÚDE EM GOIÂNIA.

The residues discarded incorrectly cause grave consequences to the environment and life quality of actual and future generations and it this context are the Health Services Residues (HSR). This study aimed the evaluation of the HSR management in Goiânia in a time frame of six years (2007-2012), to contrast the data with the demographic growth and urbanization and to evaluate the environmental conditions of the final disposition of the HSR in the city of Goiânia. We collected the data from the National Records on Health Establishments (NRHE), satellite images e demographic data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (BIGS) for the city of Goiânia and the vicinity. The data show that Goiânia presented a considerable population and urban growth, with an area of 50,2% of the municipality aggravated by the expansion of other cities in a contiguous pattern. There was an increase of 61,8% in the number of health establishments with a great discrepancy between the public and private sectors. Private hospital beds presented an increase between 4,53% and 71,87% while in the public sector there was a decrease between 7,66% and 20,67%, depending on the medical specialty. With an average of 2,763.80 tons/year of HSR Goiânia presents a precarious management where the sole landfill site presented a 30,67% increase of urban area in its surroundings. This situation suggests and urgent and detailed revision of this management system with a plan that includes an appropriate strategy to deal with the demographic and urban growth of the micro region of Goiânia.O crescimento tecnológico e industrial trouxe muitas consequências para a sociedade contemporânea, sendo algumas perigosas quanto ao futuro das civilizações, como é o caso do aumento da quantidade de lixo gerado por populações humanas. Os resíduos quando descartados de forma incorreta, trazem graves consequências para o meio ambiente e para a qualidade de vida das atuais e futuras gerações e neste contexto se insere os Resíduos dos Serviços de Saúde (RSS). Esse estudo teve como objetivos avaliar o processo de gerenciamento dos RSS em Goiânia, em um recorte temporal de seis anos (2007-2012), contrastar os dados com o processo de crescimento demográfico e urbanização e avaliar as condições ambientais das disposições final dos RSS na cidade de Goiânia. Foram coletados dados disponibilizados pelo Cadastro Nacional dos Estabelecimentos de Saúde (CNES), imagens de satélite e dados demográficos disponibilizados pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) para a cidade de Goiânia e vizinhança. Os dados revelam que Goiânia apresentou um crescimento urbano e populacional considerável, com uma área urbana de 50,2% do município, agravado com a expansão de outras sedes municipais em um padrão contíguo. Houve um aumento de 61,8% no número de estabelecimentos de saúde, com uma grande discrepância entre os setores público e privado. Os leitos privados apresentaram um aumento entre 4,53% e 71,87% ao passo que no setor público houve um decréscimo entre 7,66% e 20,67%, segundo a especialidade médica. Com uma média de 2.763,80 toneladas/ano de RSS Goiânia apresenta um gerenciamento precário, onde o único aterro sanitário da cidade apresentou 30,67% de crescimento urbano no seu entorno. Essa situação sugere uma revisão urgente e detalhada desse sistema gerencial com um planejamento que inclua uma estratégia condizente com o processo de crescimento demográfico e de urbanização da microrregião de Goiânia
