This ends up becoming as an expression of the social question and, therefore of State s responsibility, to avoid of any kind of violence. This research has as main scope analyze the inter-American system of human rights protection, under the protection of women s perspective, studying its appearance, structure and organs, international documents ratified by the Brazilian State whose goal is to prevent and punish acts of violence and protect women in vulnerable situation. The Maria da Penha Law will be analyzed, in the case of the main innovations and advances brought by it.A sociedade patriarcal-capitalista é caracterizada por relações de desigualdade entre mulheres e homens, onde se predomina, em regra, a submissão da mulher, que, por sua vez, é ratificada, sobretudo através da violência de gênero. Esta acaba por se configurar como uma expressão da questão social e, portanto de responsabilidade do Estado, pois a este incumbe à coibição de qualquer tipo de violência. A presente dissertação tem como escopo central analisar o sistema interamericano de proteção aos direitos humanos sob a ótica de proteção da mulher, estudando o seu surgimento, estrutura e órgãos que dele fazem parte, documentos internacionais ratificados pelo Estado brasileiro cujo escopo seja prevenir e punir os atos de violência, bem como proteger a mulher em situação de vulnerabilidade e hipossuficiência. A Lei Maria da Penha será analisada, tratando-se das principais inovações e avanços por ela trazidas
