The nature of my reality

It was my intention in the paintings which are described in this abstract to examine human forms as they relate to one another on both symbolic and realistic levels. The symbolic rendering of an inner reality has been evidenced in the art world for some time. But today there seems to be a reverse trend towards a more literal realistic tradition. This has been indicated by Herbert Read: Art for the first time is clearly conceived not as the mere reproduction of a ready-made, given reality but as the discovery of reality, which discovery is communicated in symbolic form. Art as Goethe said, is formative long before it is beautiful; it gives form to feelings that are otherwise obscure or inchoate and that it is its main biological and cultural function.
