Owens Valley, California projectile points

Includes bibliographical references (pages 30-35)The Projectile Point Workshops sponsored by the Eastern California Museum \ud Association, the South West Museum and the Archaeological Survey Association of Southern California took place to develop a typology for these artifacts found in the Owens Valley. The findings wore to serve as a basis for archaeological research in that region and provide comparative data for the great basin in California. Study uses the data from the workshop as the basis for: 1. An examination of the projectile point dimensions to see if a typo1ogy could be estab1ished on the basis of physical measurements. 2. An examination of the geographical distribution of these physical measurements. 3. A comparison of workshop data with Baumhoff and Byrner???s study of the Desert Side-Notch and site reports from Iny-2 and Iny-372. The physical measurements obtained in this study were distributed along a continuum rather than clustering into distinct types indicating that for this collection of points the physical measurements were not sufficient for the establishment of a meaningful typology.
