Healing the hurt: a training module for using evidence-based practices when working with families who have experienced domestic violence

Includes bibliographical references (pages 33-36)Domestic violence affects not just the intimate partners involved but the children within \ud the family as well. Community mental health workers must be prepared to work with \ud families who have experienced domestic violence in order to provide ethically \ud appropriate services. This project aims to provide education for counselors working at \ud the Valley Trauma Center in the Family Preservation Program who work in the home \ud with families. These counselors will come into contact with families who have \ud experienced intimate partner violence and will be expected to be familiar with \ud information about domestic violence as well as how it affects children and families. This \ud project provides a training module for counselors that will include information about the \ud effect of domestic violence on families as well as an evidence-based approach to \ud treatment with this population. Research has shown that empirically tested treatments \ud can be effective when working to decrease the negative symptoms in families who have \ud experienced violence. This project contains a review of the research and literature related \ud to domestic violence in families as well as evidence-based treatments for this population
