Formation and development of information skills : a study with undergraduates students of library sciences

As habilidades informacionais referem-se ao domínio que os estudantes possuem em relação à definição de suas necessidades de informação, à busca e ao uso da informação. O objetivo proposto para este estudo consistiu em analisar o processo de formação e desenvolvimento das habilidades informacionais e a influência das crenças de autoeficácia nesse processo em graduandos de Biblioteconomia no âmbito de suas práticas de pesquisa. No referencial teórico, foram abordados aspectos referentes ao processo de busca e uso informação, as fontes de informação, as estratégias para a busca da informação, as habilidades informacionais e a motivação na perspectiva das crenças de autoeficácia. Os procedimentos metodológicos utilizados foram: pesquisa colaborativa, com abordagem qualitativa. A amostra da pesquisa foi composta por 16 estudantes matriculados no 3º ano do curso de Biblioteconomia no ano letivo de 2016, que estavam na fase de construção do pré-projeto para o trabalho de conclusão de curso. A coleta de dados foi realizada em três fases, sendo que, na primeira fase foi realizado um contato inicial com os estudantes, com o objetivo de conhecê-los e apresentar a proposta da pesquisa, na segunda fase da pesquisa foi realizado uma oficina, e utilizou-se a técnica da observação e diário de pesquisa, e na terceira fase realizou-se um grupo focal. Os resultados identificaram que uma parte dos estudantes apresentavam domínio no uso das fontes de informação, outros conheciam algumas fontes, no entanto apresentavam dificuldades em sua utilização. Verificou-se que, durante a oficina os estudantes manusearam diversas bases de dados que não tinham conhecimento e recuperaram informações relevantes que não haviam conseguido antes. Os estudantes utilizavam principalmente as estratégias cognitivas para o processamento e organização das informações. Quanto às crenças de autoeficácia, a maioria dos estudantes acredita em suas capacidades, no entanto, em alguns momentos sentem-se desanimados. Os resultados evidenciaram que alguns estudantes se mostraram mais confiantes após a oficina. Conclui-se que, por meio da oficina os estudantes tiveram a oportunidade de refletir a respeito de suas práticas de pesquisa e identificar suas dificuldades. Os resultados podem contribuir para o planejamento de outras oficinas voltadas para o desenvolvimento e aprimoramento das habilidades informacionais.Information skills refer to the domain that alumni possess in relation to defining their information needs, the seek and use of information. The objective of this study was to analyze the process of formation and development of information skills and the influence of the beliefs of self-efficacy in this process among undergraduates alumni on Library Sciences in the scope on their research practices. In the theoretical reference, aspects related to the process of seeking and using information, information sources, information seeking strategies, information skills and motivation from the perspective of self-efficacy beliefs. The methodological procedures used was: collaborative research, with a qualitative method. The sample consisted of 16 alumni enrolled in the 3rd year on the Library and Information Science Graduate who were in the step of the draft version of the term paper, during the 2016 academic's year. Data collection was carried out in three phases, in the first phase an initial contact with the alumni was carried out, in order to get to know them and present the research proposal, a workshop was carried out in the second phase of the research, and the observational study technique and research diary was used, and in the third, a focus group were conducted. The results identified that some of the alumni had a domain in the use of information sources, others had knowledge of some sources, but presented difficulties in use. It was found that during the workshop the alumni handled a number of databases they were unaware of, and retrieved relevant information they had not previously obtained. Alumni mainly used cognitive strategies for processing and organizing information. As for beliefs of self-efficacy, most alumni believe in their skills, however, at times they feel discouraged. The results showed that some alumni were feel more confident after the workshop. It was concluded that through the workshop alumni had the opportunity to reflect on their research practices and identify their own difficulties. The results can contribute to the planning of other workshops aimed at the development and improvement of information skills
