O parvovírus canino (CPV) é o agente causal da parvovirose canina que ocasiona enterite e miocardite grave em cães jovens. O CPV tipo 2 (CPV-2) emergiu como uma variante do vírus da panleucopenia felina (FPV) o qual foi adaptado ao hospedeiro canino por carnívoros selvagens. Atualmente o CPV-2 é classificado em três subtipos: CPV-2a, CPV-2b e CPV-2c. Estes subtipos cocirculam em frequência variável dependendo da localidade geográfica.
