An 8-week growth trial was conducted to study carbohydrate utilization by white sturgeon fed diets containing glucose or hydrolyzed potato starch (HPS). Four diets supplemented with 15% or 30% of glucose or HPS and a control diet with no added carbohydrate were each fed to triplicate groups of fish. The diets were processed by a 3-min 80 degrees C microwave moist heating, followed by 1-h 70 degrees C drying. Feeding rates varied from 1.7% to 3.2% body weight day(-1) so that all treatment groups were fed the same amount of dietary protein and lipid.
