Information Fluency in Maritime Education

March 30, 2007The California Maritime Academy Library is at the forefront of information literacy instruction in the field of maritime education. With the birth of our instructional outreach program in 2000, we have blazed a path for integrating instructional opportunities for information literacy into a variety of first and second-year courses. Our efforts have been most fully fleshed-out in the Global Studies and Maritime Affairs major, with instruction from first year to fourth year as we strive toward meeting the information literacy outcomes established by the Association of College and Research Libraries. This presentation will outline our work over the years, culminating in our current utilization of the nationally accepted Information and Communications Technology test (developed jointly by the Educational Testing Service and several universities lead by the California State University). We will present a variety of data including ACRL standards, curriculum maps, learning outcomes, assessment data, benefits to students and faculty, etc.Calfornia Maritime Academ
