Thesis (M.S., Nursing) -- California State University, Sacramento, 2009Children with type I diabetes and their parents face challenges managing\ud diabetes during school. Challenges in school management of diabetes persist despite\ud laws to protect children with disabilities. A 46 question survey was completed by 240 parents of children with type I\ud diabetes. The data identified challenges of managing diabetes at school and how these\ud challenges affect the parent and child. School aged children with type I diabetes require assistance to manage their\ud diabetes during school: 27% need help checking blood glucose; 43% need help\ud calculating insulin doses; and 21% need help administrating insulin.
