Childhood sexual abuse awareness in the Hmong community

Project (M.S.W., Social Work)--California State University, Sacramento, 2013.The lack of research and literature available on the problem of child sexual abuse in the Hmong community presents a challenge for service providers to understand and provide culturally sensitive services to this population. The researcher???s purpose in this research study were to accomplish the following: to assess the awareness level of child sexual abuse in the Hmong community; to understand the perceptions held by Hmong individuals regarding child sexual abuse; to understand the impacts Hmong family dynamics have on child sexual abuse; and to understand how Hmong cultural dynamics may influence the ways in which child sexual abuse is dealt with. Findings suggest that participants believe the Hmong community is not receptive towards victims of child sexual abuse and is not equipped to provide appropriate support and resources to victims affected by this problem.Social Wor
