A comparison over time between high school math outcomes in the implementation of iPad pilot courses

A High School in Southern California piloted an iPad program for math classes the 2011-2012 school year. In this study the results of this iPad pilot are compared to the results in traditional classes. The two main changes from traditional educational methods at the school were researched. The first change was the ability to provide instant feedback to students on assessments and the ability to retake these tests in a mastery learning environment. The second change was the ability of students to use iPad in the classroom setting to access the internet to supplement the class instruction provided by the teacher. These changes were spurred by the upcoming Common Core State Standards.\ud The 2011-2012 California Standards Tests, 2012-2013 Benchmarks, and 2012-2013 Semester Grades were compared between the students who were in the iPad pilot program and those who were not. By comparing results after the student left the iPad pilot the long term success of the students could be determined. The results show that the iPad pilot group scored the same or lower on all measures. The changes to pedagogy did not show better results as measured by California Standards Test or student grades the following year. Modifications are necessary for the success of this program.Educatio
