Background: Cancer of the head and neck, including oral, laryngeal, and pharyngeal sites, is the sixth most common malignancy in the world. Every year, nearly 650,000 patients worldwide receive the diagnosis of head and neck cancer, and around 350,000 die from this disease [1]. More than 95% of these cancers are head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) in histology [1].
