Increasing atmospheric CO2 levels have led to disastrous consequences that have impacted many people’s lives. In nature, photosynthesis is the primary sink of CO2 in the air and in the ocean. A better understanding of the light harvesting and utilization mechanisms can help us better design photosynthetic organisms or artificial photosynthetic systems to utilize and reduce CO2 levels in the natural environment. Thanks to advancements in computational biology and bioinformatics in the past decade, we are now capable of achieving this task from a new prospective, with data analysis accomplished more quantitatively and comprehensively than ever before. A marine diatom, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, was selected to be the model species in my study...
