The Fortuneteller is a piece of historical fiction. Written in the style of memoir, it\ud is part of a larger body of work on carnival culture set in late 19th and early 20th century\ud Persia. Narrated by Nasreen, a blue-eyed, bearded woman reflecting on her troubled past,\ud this account of orphanhood, whoredom, and the exploitation of the freak complicates the\ud narrator???s sense of identity and humanity.
