HeddlestonFrom The Frontlines to the Bottom Line: Medical Marijuana, the War On Drugs, and the Drug Policy Reform MovementThe medical marijuana movement began in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s in a climate of official repression. This movement represents the most successful branch of the forty-year old drug policy reform movement. Using oral histories, participant observation, and archival research this dissertation explores the genesis, growth, and transformation of the medical marijuana movement in California from 1990 until 2012.
