Albert Camus (1913–1960) and Mouloud Feraoun (1913–1962) were two contemporary Francophone Algerian authors whose works display a vital attachment to their lived experience in colonial Algeria. The Algerian War of independence (1954–1962), moreover, is a crucial event in their development both as writers and as politically engaged public figures.
