Translating means transposing a text from a source language to a target language. This practice considers that languages are defined as discrete in a reality dominated by continuity: they apply arbitrary cuts that do not correspond among idioms. Quine defined the principles of translation’s indeterminacy: the perfect translation does not exist; each one starts from hypotheses to draw conclusions. A language is more than a vocabulary or a grammar as well as a translation is more than an interlinguistic exchange: they represent the combination between vocabulary and encyclopaedia. The term translation presents a lexical proximity with tradition but also with treason. We cheat in order to get into the text, adapting the piece and the source language to the reader and the target language. A mechanism, in literature, which not only considers ideas but also creativity. The aim is to create a parallelism between two cultural systems and transpose semantic differences and nuances of meaning. The translator is called upon to give evidence of his/her abilities to promote a fruitful dialogue between two systems. These theories guided me during my first translation into Italian of the novel Chamsa, fille du soleil: a linguistic challenge in the understanding of the original text and then a cultural one rewriting it, bringing the Arab world closer to Italian readers. Translation is therefore an act of betrayal, of textual separation, but also a rally point among communities, safeguarding diversity. Finding the compromise among these variations is the real headache of a good translator.Traduire signifie transposer un texte d’une langue source dans une langue cible. Cette pratique considère que les langues se définissent discrètes dans une réalité dominée par la continuité : elles appliquent des couples arbitraires ne correspondant pas parmi les idiomes. Quine définissait le principe de l’indétermination de la traduction : la transposition parfaite n’existe pas, chacune part d’hypothèses pour arriver à des conclusions. Une langue est plus que le lexique ou la grammaire de même que la traduction est plus qu’un échange interlinguistique : elles représentent l’union entre le vocabulaire et l’encyclopédie. Le terme traduction présente une proximité lexicale avec tradition mais aussi avec trahison. On triche pour s’approprier le texte, en adaptant l’œuvre et la langue source au lecteur et à la langue d’arrivée. Un mécanisme, dans les textes littéraires, qui part des idées pour arriver à la créativité. Le but est de créer un parallélisme entre deux systèmes culturels et transposer les décalages sémantiques et les nuances de sens. Le traducteur est appelé à faire preuve de ses capacités, pour favoriser un dialogue fructueux entre deux systèmes. Cette pensée m’a conduit dans ma première traduction en italien du roman Chamsa, fille du soleil : un défi linguistique de compréhension du texte de départ et ensuite culturel lors de la réécriture, pour rapprocher le monde arabe aux lecteurs italiens. La traduction est donc un acte de trahison, de séparation textuelle, mais aussi un collant parmi les communautés, sauvegardant la diversité. Trouver le bon compromis parmi ces variantes est le vrai casse-tête d’un bon traducteur.Процес перекладу визначають як транспозицію тексту з джерельної на цільову мову. Такий підхід передбачає мовну дискретність на тлі безперервності, яка властива реальності. Розмірковуючи про невизначеність перекладу, Куайн стверджував, що не існує такого поняття, як ідеальна транспозиція, кожна з можливих транспозицій відштовхується від власних гіпотез, щоб дійти до власних висновків. Мова – це більше, ніж лексика або граматика, так само як і переклад – це більше, ніж міжмовний обмін: і перший, і другий є своєрідним союзом між словником та енциклопедією. Слово traduction (переклад) у французькій мові за своїм звучанням близьке до слова традиція (tradition), але також і до слова зрада (trahison). Ми зраджуємо, щоб привласнити текст, адаптуючи твір та мову оригіналу до читача та до цільової мови. Саме цей механізм спрацьовує у процесі перекладу художнього тексту – від ідеї до творчого акту. Мета перекладу – створення паралелізму між двома культурними системами та транспозиція значення. Перекладач покликаний сприяти плідному діалогу між двома культурними системами. Цей підхід я обрав під час перекладу свого першого роману Chamsa, fille du soleil італійською мовою, усвідомлюючи необхідність подолати мовний виклик, яким є розуміння тексту оригіналу, а згодом – й культурного, щоб наблизити арабський світ до італійських читачів. Водночас переклад є актом зради, текстового відокремлення. Проте слід усвідомити, що переклад також виступає актом, що об’єднує різні культури, одночасно зберігаючи своєрідність кожної з них. Отже, покликанням перекладача можна вважати пошук міжкультурного компромісу
