My Bed, Your Bed, Their Bed; The Association Between Extradyadic Sex And Relationship Satisfaction In Lgbtq Individuals

Researchers typically understand monogamy as a social construction buttressed by religious and capitalistic ideologies. A practice that is rooted in male dominance and patriarchal lineage. Yet, western society deems monogamy as morally superior and, as such, is a defining factor in relationship quality. This study oversampled LGBTQ individuals in an attempt to advance two goals. First, this study aims to advance our understanding of the demographic characteristics of LGBTQ individuals involved in non-monogamous relationships. Secondly, this study examines the association between relationship structure (e.g. monogamous/ non-monogamous) and relationship happiness. Specifically, this study will compare perceived relationship quality (e.g., happiness) between individuals involved in monogamous, monogamish, and (sexually) open relationships
