Impacts on behavior and motivation in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder using computer aided learning

The researcher used Teachtown: Basic, software in this research study. Computer-aided learning (CAL) incorporates technology into empirically supported interventions for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Traditional learning styles that use relevant materials (toys or pictures) have improved learning in individuals with autism for a long time. However, children with ASD tend to be visual learners. They understand what they see better than what they hear (Moor, 2000). Therefore, they benefit significantly from the use of visual strategies. Although there are many research studies in the relationship between social skills and CAL or communication skills and CAL, there are a few research studies in the relationship between one-on-one therapy and CAL, and also between parent-child interaction and CAL. A multiple-baseline across participants was utilized to evaluate the improvement of behavior and motivation (correct response, responsivity, engagement, spontaneous language and positive affect for child and parent/caregiver, and parent self-efficacy) in children with ASD in on-computer sessions and in off-computer sessions.
