Le char de guerre en Syrie et Palestine au Bronze récent

[EN] The war chariot was the novel and decisive element of the armies of the Ancient Near East andEgypt in the 2nd millennium B.C. Throughout the second half of this millennium, the war chariot was thenucleus of the armies while technical progress in its construction quickly spread around the whole of the AncientNear East. This paper seeks to provide a general vision of the role played by this weapon within the armies of Syria-Palestine in the Late Bronze Age. Accordingly, the main sources available are analysed (archives of Ugarit, Alalah, Emar and Amarna, iconographic sources, archaeological items), as well as information providedby them regarding the process of manufacture of the chariot, the storage system, the structure of the chariotunits, officers in charge of this weapon, the geo-strategic distribution of the chariot as well as its role both in warand in times of peace.[FR] Le char de guerre a été l’élément déterminant et novateur des armées du Proche-Orient et de l’Egypteanciens au cours du II e millénaire av. J.-C . En particulier tout au long de la seconde moitié de cette période où ilconstitua le noyau des armées et qui vit aussi les progrès techniques dans sa construction se diffuser trèsrapidement dans tout le Proche-Orient ancien. Le travail que nous présentons a pour but d’une part d’offrir unevision générale du rôle du char dans les armées de la Syrie-Palestine du Bronze Récent (distributiongéographique, missions assurées durant la guerre et en temps de paix, structure des unités opérationnelles,officiers en poste). Les principales sources disponibles (archives d’Ougarit, d’Alalah, d’Emar et d’Amarna, lessources iconographiques, et les données archéologiques), sont également interrogées sur les aspects techniquesliés au processus de fabrication et sur la question du système de stockage.Peer reviewe
