Sindromul de ochi uscat la copii și maturi în pandemia COVID-19 în Republica Moldova

Department of Ophthalmology-Optometry, Nicolae Testemitanu SUMPhBackground. There are many studies that suggest about the damage of occular surface in patients infected with the SARS CoV-2 virus. It has been shown that ocular symptoms may occur earlier than respiratory symptoms in patients infected with COVID-19. Objective of the study. Determination and assessment of signs and symptoms of dry eye in children and adults diagnosed with COVID-19. Material and Methods. A total of 138 patients (276 eyes) were examined, of which 16 children (32 eyes) and 112 adults (224 eyes) that were diagnosed with Covid-19. In order to assess the tear secretion in each patient, the Schirmer-I test was performed. Data on subjective ocular manifestations were obtained following direct interrogation, or from the medical records of inpatients. Results. The average age of the examined persons was 9.4 years in the group of children, and 49.4 years in adults. In 11 (10.7%) of the investigated adults, as well as in one (6.25%) of the children, the ocular symptoms (eye pain, photophobia, eye pruritus) appeared before the respiratory ones. Ophthalmic manifestations at hospitalization presented 58.9% of adults and 43.75% of children examined COVID-19 positive. The Shirmer-I test showed low tear secretion (<15 mm / 5 min) in 168 of 224 eyes (75%) in the adult group and 24 of 32 eyes (75.0%) in the children group. Conclusion. The results of our study show that signs and symptoms of ocular surface damage are common in COVID-19 positive individuals, including children, but the data obtained may be influenced by the presence of other risk factors for dry eye syndrome.Introducere. S-a demonstrat că simptomele oculare pot aparea mai precoce decât cele respiratorii la pacientii infectati cu COVID-19. Scopul lucrării. Determinarea și aprecierea semnelor și simptomelor de ochi uscat la copiii și maturii diagnosticați cu COVID-19. Material și Metode. Au fost examinați în total 138 de pacienți (276 de ochi), dintre care – 16 copii (32 ochi) și 112 de maturi (224 de ochi), diagnosticati cu Covid-19. Pentru a aprecia secreția lacrimală la fiecare pacient a fost realizat testul Schirmer-I. Datele despre manifestările oculare subiective au fost obținute în urma interogării directe sau din fișele medicale ale bolnavilor de staționar. Rezultate. Vârsta medie a persoanelor examinate a constituit 9,4 ani în grupul de copii și 49,4 ani la adulți.
