Arquitectura e imaginarios sociales. : De cuando el lenguaje poético se vuelve icónico.

This contribution is an approach to Baroque architectural ekphrasis, in particular, that related to the Cathedrals of Málaga and Jaén. The route proposed means to speak of images, this term being understood as the set of representations or symbolic associations of the building that transcend the merely material and that connect with the imaginary of a period, contributing, at the same time, to the interpretation and valuation of the construction. According to Schlosser, it is a matter of reintegrating the architectural form within the ideal and ideological process that supports it poetically, symbolically, or culturally, beyond the technical, morphological, and scientific aspects of the work. To this end, this study begins with a brief approach to the historiography of artistic-literary sources, and then looks at some research that underlines the need to assess the critical-artistic judgement of a given period. After these preliminary reflections and considering both the architectural descriptions of antiquity and those closer to the buildings discussed here, the text goes on to reveal the imaginary present in the ecphrastic literature on the cathedrals of Malaga and Jaén. All of this is based on the conviction that, in the analysis of Early Modern architecture in general, and cathedral constructions in particular, the appreciation and evaluation of tangible and intangible, material and visual, permanent and temporary, emotional and sensorial aspects is possible through the study of the building ekphrasis.Esta contribución constituye una aproximación a la écfrasis arquitectónica barroca, en particular, aquella relacionada con las catedrales de Málaga y Jaén. El recorrido que se propone implica hablar de imágenes, entendido este término como el conjunto de representaciones o asociaciones simbólicas del edificio que trascienden lo meramente material y que entroncan con el imaginario de una época, favoreciendo, al mismo tiempo, la interpretación y valoración de la construcción. Se trata, siguiendo a Schlosser, de reintegrar la forma arquitectónica dentro del proceso ideal e ideológico que la soporta poética, simbólica, o culturalmente, más allá de los aspectos técnicos, morfológicos, y científicos de la obra. A tal fin, este estudio comienza con una breve aproximación a la historiografía en torno a las fuentes artístico-literarias, y se detiene en algunas investigaciones que subrayan la necesidad de valorar el juicio crítico-artístico de una determinada época. Tras estas consideraciones preliminares y teniendo en cuenta tanto las descripciones arquitectónicas de la Antigüedad como aquellas más próximas a los edificios que aquí se tratan, el texto se ocupa de desvelar el imaginario presente en la literatura ecfrástica sobre las catedrales de Málaga y Jaén. Todo ello desde el convencimiento de que, en el análisis de la arquitectura de la Edad Moderna en general, y de las construcciones catedralicias en particular, la apreciación y valoración de aspectos tangibles e intangibles, materiales y visuales, permanentes y temporales, emocionales y sensoriales, es posible a partir del estudio de las écfrasis edilicias
