El capital mercantil en las crisis de principios del siglo XIX. Tres ejemplos malagueños

The war situation in the world which was maintained by conflicts of one kind or another between 1793 and 1824, was the source of the disturbances which affected Spanish maritime trading during this period. Trading in the port of Malaga was also hit, together with other catastrophes, epidemics, earthquakes, floods, bad harvests, etc., which accentuated and prolonged the consequences of the difficult commercial situation at the beginning of the XIX century. The Malaga mercantile class, mainly constituted by foreigners, also saw itself affected by these problems in their everyday life and business. In this article we intend to observe the situation of Malaga´  s most important commercial fortunes at the time of the crisis, confirm how they had been affected and what measures were adopted to renew businesses that still maintained a high level of stability.La coyuntura bélica mundial que se mantuvo con conflictos de uno u otro signo entre 1793 y 1824, estuvo en la raiz de las perturbaciones que afectaron al comercio marítimo español durante ese periodo. El tráfico del puerto de Málaga resultó igualmente alcanzado, añadiéndose, además, otras catástrofes -epidemias, terremotos, inundaciones, malas cosechas, etc.- que acentuaron y prolongaron las consecuencias de la difícil situación comercial de principios del siglo XIX. La clase mercantil malagueña, integrada en su mayoría por extranjeros, también se vió afectada en sus vidas y en sus negocios por estos problemas. En este artículo se pretende observar la situación de algunas de las grandes fortunas comerciales malagueñas en los momentos de crisis, comprobar cómo habían sido alcanzadas y qué medidas se tomaron para reconducir unos negocios que todavía mantenían un alto grado de solidez
