Objective: To describe the experience of in-service education with nursing professionals from a hospital emergency room, in the operationalization of a protocol for glycemic control and insulin treatment in critically ill patients. Method: Experience report, conducted by undergraduate nursing students of a Public University of the State of Bahia, Brazil. Experienced in the Red Room of a public hospital, between November/2019 and March/2020. The Situational Strategic Planning was used as a theoretical and methodological reference.
