Texual Criticism of Elizabeth Gaskell\u27s Thrity-Six Works

The purpose of this article is to investigate the extant manuscripts of Gaskell\u27s major works, the number of editions published in her lifetime, their differences, their publication details, and the texts adopted by the books currently available. Each work is discussed individually in order of its publication, and the result put into two tables: the one about difference in editions, the other choice of copy text. Our examination will clarify textual variants, especially between Everyman, Penguin, and the World\u27s Classics, three major paperbackeditions
