The surface wind at the main campus of the Nagasaki University is studied for the purpose of obtaining a deeper understanding of the wind environment. The data used in this study are the hourly wind directions and wind speed of.three years from 1988 to 1990. A brief summary of this investigation can be given as follows. (1) The direction of the prevailing wind is N to NW in winter adn S in summer mainly due to the topolographical condition that the observation site is open to the N-S line. (2) The mean wind speed is strongest in spring (March and April) and weakest in the late autumn (November and December). The strong wind in spring is brought from the storm psssing from west to east.
