Leadership styles and teacher involvement in secondary school, a (self) biographic approach

Las formas de liderazgo en los centros de educación secundaria son múltiples y variadas, si bien, en la actualidad, las tendencias más innovadoras pasan por esquemas de funcionamiento de tipo transformativo y distributivo. En el artículo se exploran, como objetivo principal, las relaciones entre el estilo de liderazgo y la motivación del profesorado, vistos como componentes complementarios para incrementar el capital profesional de los centros. Se recurre al método (auto)biográfico, tomando como informante un profesional en el campo, con veinte años de experiencia docente, ejercicio de funciones directivas y formación específica en gestión de centros. Como resultado, se recompone la narrativa extraída de tres entrevistas y del Proyecto de Dirección, construyendo una historia de vida (“biografía”, “diagnóstico”, “misión”, “visión y valores”), con la cual se dialoga desde el análisis interpretativo. Se triangulan los datos del informante con referencias de investigaciones actuales y significativas en el campo, tras lo cual se concluye una estrecha relación entre los constructos “distribución del liderazgo” y “motivación docente”. Se discuten, finalmente, las estrategias y propuestas a implementar, poniéndose en valor dinámicas como la discusión y consenso de objetivos, la colaboración entre toda comunidad escolar y la cultura de trabajo en equipo. Todo ello, en última instancia, con el propósito de una mejora del contexto, la experiencia y los resultados educativos del alumnado.The forms of leadership in secondary schools are multiple and varied, although currently, the most innovative trends go through transformative and distributive operating schemes. The main objective of the article is to explore the relationship between the style of leadership and teacher motivation; both aspects are seen as complementary components to increase the professional capital of the centers. We use an (auto)biographical method, and we have taken, as an informant, a professional in the field, with twenty years of teaching experience, exercising management functions, and with specific training in center leadership. The narrative extracted from three interviews helps to rethink the Management Project. A life story is built ("biography", "diagnosis", "mission", "vision and values"), and dialogue is created to analyse some interpretative aspects. The informant's data is triangulated with references from current and significant research in the field. After the analysis one can infer the outstanding importance of the binomial "leadership distribution" and "teaching motivation". Finally, the strategies and proposals to be implemented are discussed, highlighting dynamics such as the discussion and consensus of objectives, the collaboration between the entire school community, and the culture of teamwork. The ultimate purpose of the study is to improve the context, the experience, and the educational results of the students
