ANALISIS KONFLIK SOSIAL TOKOH UTAMA DALAM NOVEL AYAH KARYA ANDREA HIRATA

The novel Ayah by Andrea Hirata has various types of characters, unique plot stages, and background elements that add to the distinctive taste of a novel. The social conflict experience by the main character is explained through the efforts and struggles Sabari in getting Marlena’s love, but her love is one sided. The purpose of this study (1) is to describe the types of social conflict experienced by the main character, (2) to describe the factors behind the social conflict experienced by the main character, and (3) to describe the form of social conflict resolution experienced by the main character. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. This study uses a sociology of literature approach. The data in this study are in the form of sentences and pharagraphs related to the social conflict experienced by the main character. The data source inthis research is the novel Ayah by Andrea Hirata. The technique used in analyzing the data is by reading the novel Ayah in depth, analyzing, interpreting and making conclusions. The results show that in Andrea Hirata’s Ayah novel, it is found that there are two types of social conflict experienced by the main character, 1) types of social conflict based on their nature: a) destructive conflict when bad luck comes to Sabari, b) constructive conflict, namely Sabari. Experience changes in attitudes and behavior, 2) types of social conflict based on position of the perpetrator: a) vertical conflict, namely Markoni confronting, b) horizontal conflict, namely Sabari does not stop hoping, c) diagonal conflict, namely when Sabari sacrifices his own happiness. The factors that cause social conflict experienced by the main character are 1) differences in stance, namely Sabari trying to be the best, 2) cultural differences, namely Sabari seeking new experiences, 3) differences in interests, namely the struggle for child custody. The forms og social conflict resolution experienced by the main character are 1) conciliation, namely Sabari has to forget the past, 2) mediation, namely deliberation and finding the best way, 3) arbitration, namely when Lena filed for divorce unilaterally, 4) arbitration, namely the sacrifice of friends
