This paper presents the dialogue between Paulo Freire‘s critical pedagogy and Boaventura de Sousa Santos’ proposal about the Southern epistemology, whose theoretical bases allow the construction of the concept of own citizenships. The research was developed following the qualitative approach, from a methodological perspective of documentary style, analyzing the category of citizenships from critical reconstructive hermeneutics. The analysis allowed the reflection on education as a political and gnoseological action to recognize in the other their subjectivity, and considered recognized beings, their contributions to human development far from Eurocentric theory and practices that do not apply to the Latin American region.
