This study evaluates how the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE), an independent appeals body, investigates children’s situation in asylum proceedings according to The Immigration Act of 2008. Cases included in the study are limited to children who were younger than 18 when the Board handeled their case. Both unaccompanied minors and children applying for asylum with their caregivers are included in the case material. The mission We have assessed to which extent the Board examines children’s situation: as part of case preparations or during the Board meeting, and how children are heard, if there is a need for the Board to hear children more often and in different ways than it does today.
