The influence of temperature on the room temperature strength of E-glass rods was studied. Groups of rods were heated in air at various temperatures in the range from 160°F to 1100°F. The strength versus temperature relation was found to be qualitatively similar to that determined for E-glass fibres. Light and Electron Micrographs were made of the rod surface after various treatments. It is suggested that the most likely reason for the strength decrease, observed after heating, is an ordering or devitrification at the rod surface.U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Contract No. Nonr 2947 (02) (x), NRL Project 62 R05 19
