Intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) plays an important role in tumor development and progression. Variability within a single tumor can contribute to its drug resistance and metastatic potential, two of the most pressing challenges in clinical oncology today. Sequencing studies across a range of cancers have identified genetically distinct subclones as important players in ITH, however, the growth dynamics and interactions between these clones are understudied aspects of ITH.
