STUDI LITERATUR : PENGARUH SERAI (CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS), JAHE (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE), DAN STEVIA (STEVIA REBAUDIANA) TERHADAP KADAR GULA DARAH

ABSTRACTBackground: The increasing prevalence of diabetes is caused by lifestyle changes that can increase blood glucose. The antioxidant compounds in plants can reduce blood glucose levels in the body.Purposes: To review the literature on the effect of lemongrass, ginger, and stevia on blood sugar levels.Methods: Literature studies have been carried out through online databases such as Wiley Online Library, PubMed, Science Direct, Elsevier, Research Gate, and Garuda Portal. Inclusion criteria in the form of articles from research results in Indonesian and English, relevant to the research topic, the publication year 2015-2020. The research methodology is limited to the experimental design method.Results: The analyzed data came from 30 articles of journals and then selected according to predetermined criteria into 10 articles. The data characteristics identified from the selected articles were journal type, keywords, country, study and sample characteristics, research results, and year of research. The results of literature studies show that consumption of lemongrass can suppress oxidative stress and reduce blood sugar levels, consumption of ginger shows that ?-glucosidase and ?-amylase inhibitory activity is very high in carbohydrate metabolism, consumption of stevia can affect insulin stimulating glycogen synthase activity and inhibiting glycogenolysis in the liver which has a key role in the production of endogenous glucose so that blood sugar levels can be lowered.Conclusion: Lemongrass, ginger, and stevia can be used as anti-diabetic herbs.Keywords: Lemongrass, ginger, stevia, blood glucose levels, anti-diabetes
