An intersectional approach on primary school textbooks

Textbooks play an important part in children's schooling. They have an obvious educational purpose and exist to convey knowledge, but their worth goes beyond the simple school framework. Teaching materials, and particularly textbooks, have an essential role in the socialisation of children through the values they communicate. Based on these observations, we conducted an extensive study of gender representations in textbooks used in Luxembourg primary schools (Kerger & Brasseur, 2021). Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the number of characters and the type of activities in which they are represented, we were able to uncover the norms and stereotypes found in these textbooks
